Back for my second mat!
I recently bought my second mat from Yoga Strong - that's how much I love these mats. The stap was an added bonus but I'm really happy to have it. It works so well, is thoughtfully constructed and looks great!
LOVE my mat!
I’m new to the work out life, but in my short time i’ve been in it, i’ve had 2 other mats that were very poor quality. I was slipping, my feet were burning, and my balance was off. This mat has been SO amazing! I’ve used it for 3 classes now and i’ve made the comment every time, I truly feel like I’m on a luxury mat. I’m so happy I found this mat so early on in my workout journey. 10/10 recommend!
PERFECT for Inferno Pilates
I have gotten to use my new mat a few times now, and I am thrilled with it! It's perfect for heated classes; the sweatier I get, the better the mat holds me in place so I am not sliding around. Also got a compliment on the first day I took it to class. Looks great, feels great. It is heavier than it looks, so be prepared for that. LOVE my new mat!
My new favorite mat. Worth the price!
I didn’t know yoga mats like this even existed. I’m so glad I splurged and took the risk to buy a REAL yoga mat. Super soft, yet great texture that prevents slipping. It’s also really good quality so I can lay it on thick uneven dirt or grass and still have a smooth and even mat to practice my yoga on.
The Mist works well
The mist does a great job of mat cleaning and I like the fragrance a lot.
Frequently Asked Questions
-
How thick should a yoga mat be for bad knees?
A 5mm to 6mm mat with dense construction provides the best knee protection for most practitioners. Material density matters more than raw thickness; a well-built 5mm rubber mat cushions better than a cheap 10mm foam mat that compresses under pressure.
-
What is the thickest yoga mat you can buy?
Yoga mats range from 1mm (travel) to 15mm (ultra-thick). Most quality brands max out at 6mm to 8mm because anything thicker starts to compromise balance and stability. For joint issues, prioritize material density and dual-layer construction over simply choosing the thickest option available.
-
Are extra-thick yoga mats harder to balance on?
Yes. Mats above 6mm create a softer, less stable surface that can make standing poses, single-leg balances, and transitions feel unstable. Your feet sink slightly, which reduces proprioceptive feedback. If you need joint protection, choose a dense 5mm to 6mm mat over a soft 10mm mat.
-
Is a 6mm or 8mm yoga mat better for joint support?
For most practices, 6mm is the better choice. It provides meaningful cushioning while maintaining enough firmness for stability. An 8mm mat is ideal for purely restorative or therapeutic practices where you spend most of the session on the floor and rarely stand.
-
Can you use a thick yoga mat for Pilates and floor exercises?
Yes. Thick mats are excellent for Pilates, stretching, and bodyweight floor exercises where cushion is the priority over balance. The extra padding protects your spine, hips, and tailbone during exercises like roll-ups, bridges, and leg lifts. A 6mm mat is a solid crossover choice.
